The F1
F1 Bernedoodles are first-generation hybrids, created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. The F2
Second-generation Bernedoodles (F2)
are created by breeding two F1 Bernedoodles together.
This results in a 50/50 mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle genetics, similar to F1 Bernedoodles, but with greater variability in traits.
The F1b
An F1B Bernedoodle is a first-generation backcross, created by breeding an F1 Bernedoodle (50% Bernese Mountain Dog and 50% Poodle) with a purebred Poodle. This results in a Bernedoodle that is approximately 75% Poodle and 25% Bernese Mountain Dog. The "B" in F1B stands for "backbred," which refers to breeding back to one of the original parent breeds, in this case, the Poodle. Excellent choice for people who are highly allergic and want ZERO shedding (usually!).
